Former Rutgers DB signs with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Former Rutgers DB Avery Young has landed a new NFL opportunity. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Monday that they have added Young to their training camp roster.
Young heads from one Bay Area to another. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in May but was waived on Tuesday of last week. He cleared waivers on Wednesday.
A 5-year member of the Scarlet Knights, Young played in 57 games over his Rutgers career. Young recorded 326 tackles (10 for loss, 3 sacks), 26 passes defended (3 interceptions), 5 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery over his college career.
A 2022 Team Captain and Iron Knight Award winner, Young capped his career by logging 84 tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception last season. He was recognized as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the conference coaches and media members. The media also named Young an All-B1G Honorable Mention in 2020, when he posted a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss over 9 games.
