Former Scott Frost QB McKenzie Milton leaving UCF in hopes of finding starting job

Central Florida quarterback McKenzie Milton is entering the transfer portal in hopes of finding a starting quarterback job.
Milton shared that news in an interview with ESPN’s Andrea Adelson this week.
Milton was the quarterback of Scott Frost’s undefeated UCF team in 2017. But in 2018, he suffered a gruesome knee injury that has kept him off the field for the last two seasons. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
“I know my clock is ticking,” Milton said in an exclusive interview with ESPN. “I’ve only got one more year to play, and the momentum [starting QB Dillon Gabriel] has, I wouldn’t want any controversy in the locker room. He’s earned the right to be the starter here at UCF. I see that, and I feel it’s best for both UCF and myself that I move on elsewhere. I’m trying to chase the dream of playing in the NFL, so I’ve got to give myself the best opportunity to do that.”
Milton was a three-year starter for the Golden Knights, with two of those seasons coming with Scott Frost as his head coach. Frost started Milton as a true freshman at UCF in 2016.
In his career with UCF, Milton completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 8,683 yards, 72 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.
It’s unclear if Nebraska would be interested in bringing Milton in next season, but the Huskers’ current quarterback room could certainly use an improvement.
Adrian Martinez and Luke McCaffrey are both better as runners than they are as throwers. Martinez is the best passer between the two, but his QB efficiency rating is just 127 this season. He averages 6.8 yards per attempt and struggles to push the ball down field.
Milton told ESPN he’s hoping to find a new program before the spring semester starts in January. He’s prioritizing teams that have a “solid” offensive line and need a veteran quarterback.
