Former Terps star Ty Johnson caps career-best performance with first NFL TD

The Jets might be tanking, but it isn’t coming without some improvement from younger players.
One of those improving players is second-year running back and former Maryland Terp Ty Johnson. He was a bright spot in another hilarious loss by New York as he went for more than 100 yards rushing.
Coming into Sunday’s game, Johnson had five carries for 18 yards in his five most recent games. On Sunday, Johnson had 22 carries for 104 yards, one of his best games as an NFL player as he also scored a touchdown in the 31-28 loss. It was his first career NFL touchdown.

Johnson joined the league in 2019 after playing for Maryland. He was a sixth-round pick by the Detroit Lions that year. He started one game in 2019 and rushed 63 times for 273 yards.
The Jets hardly have much to be excited about right now outside of increasing chances of getting Trevor Lawrence. Johnson might be one of those few bright spots to keep around for the future.
