One of the most iconic voices associated with Purdue football is headed to Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame.

Recently, it was announced that Joe McConnell, who spent 15 seasons as the play-by-play voice of Purdue football, was one of four honorees who would be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

McConnell’s broadcasting career spanned over 40 years and included calling several major sporting events. He announced multiple Super Bowls, NBA playoff games, an NBA All-Star game and Major League Baseball playoff series during his career. But McConnell was most well-noted for his work in the college ranks, which included stops at Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana State, Notre Dame and Purdue.

During his career, McConnell was named the AP/UPI Play-by-Play Sportscaster of the Year five times and was the Indiana Sportscaster of the year in 2000.

McConnell started calling Purdue football in 1995 and was the voice through the entire Joe Tiller era. He retired from his post at Purdue in 2009.
