Russell Wilson is among the frontrunners for a number of awards and honors this season, the latest now being a nomination for Walter Payton Man of the Year.

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback, an alum of Wisconsin, is up for the coveted award that is given to an NFL player for his “outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on it.”

Wilson is well known for his community work, most recently “to help tackle the issue of hunger and support children and families in need due to COVID-19.”

He is also among the favorites for the NFL MVP Award.

Walter Payton was the recipient of the award in 1977. The honor was named after him shortly after his passing in 1999. It is considered the greatest honor handed out by the league, despite it focusing purely on off the field work.

Last season, Calais Campbell of the Jacksonville Jaguars won the award.

In 2017, former Wisconsin star J.J. Watt won the award. He was the last NFL player from the Big Ten to receive the annual honor.
