This is a call they’ll be talking about for quite some time.
Saturday night’s Final Four matchup between Virginia and Auburn was coming down to the wire, with the Tigers owning a 62-60 advantage with 1.5 seconds remaining in the game and the Cavaliers inbounding the ball. UVA had one shot to send the game to overtime or win.
The inbounds pass went to Kyle Guy who fired up a last-second shot from behind the arc, which would’ve won the game. The ball bounced off the rim and Auburn was headed to the national championship game.
Except a foul was called on Samir Doughty, sending Guy to the free throw line for three shots. Doughty hip-checked Guy in the air, warranting the call. Guy stepped to the line and knocked down all three shots.
Auburn’s last Hail Mary play came up short, and Virginia won 63-62.
Many are debating whether or not Doughty committed the foul. Others say that it might’ve been a foul, but that it shouldn’t have been called in that situation. Either way, it was called and Virginia is playing for a national title.
Here’s the play. What are your thoughts?
Triple stack, Guy reads his defender, pops out for the three and gets fouled. Ends up being the game winner! #NextPlay #FinalFour pic.twitter.com/dc80XmRipV
