Is it time to add more bowl games?
It is hard to fathom that there are not enough bowl games in college football. However, there are more bowl-eligible teams than postseason slots available following the 2018 season.
According to reporter Brett McMurphy, there are 78 total bowl berths with 82 teams eligible. The four teams drawing the short straw are Wyoming, Miami (OH), Louisiana-Monroe, and Southern Mississippi. Each of those teams went 6-6 with the exception of Southern Miss who went 6-5.

Three of the four teams – Wyoming, ULM, and Southern Mississippi – had a win over an FCS team on their record. Miami recorded six wins in the MAC but failed to beat a non-conference opponent.
RedditCFB also shared a report that Miami’s AD suggested the school would file to schedule a 13th game against ULM if the schools were left out of bowl season. It remains to be seen if that will indeed happen:
On Friday, Miami (OH)'s AD suggested—if they weren't selected for a bowl game—they'll attempt to file a waiver with the NCAA to play a 13th game at ULM; wonder if the other 2 would consider something similar: https://t.co/R693fwEDvH https://t.co/urxKrGE0fj

Is it time to add more bowl games? Or is this simply a rare but unfortunate occurrence for these four teams?
