Fourth in-state product commits to Hoosiers

Tom Allen is passionate about recruiting well in the state of Indiana. His 2020 class is off to a pretty good start.

Indiana landed its fourth in-state prospect on Tuesday night, as three-star defensive end Caleb Murphy gave his verbal pledge to the Hoosiers. He becomes to fifth player to join IU’s 2020 recruiting class. Murphy made his announcement via Twitter.

“After a great talk with Coach Allen I’m blessed to say I’ve received an offer from my dream school, Indiana University,” Murphy wrote. “I want to thank my family and my Coaches for everything they have done for me to make me who I am.

“All this being said I’m 100% COMMITTED to Indiana University to continue my academic and athletic career!!”

A 6-foot-5, 235-pound native of Campbellsburg, Indiana, Murphy is listed as the No. 11 player out of his home state. He’s also considered to be one of the top 50 weak-side defensive ends in the 2020 cycle.

Murphy had a total of 16 offers from FBS and FCS programs. He selected the Hoosiers over offers from Ball State, Northern Illinois, Air Force and Bowling Green, among others.

With Murphy’s commitment, Indiana has the 48th ranked recruiting class nationally and sits ninth in the B1G. Murphy is currently the second-highest rated commit of IU’s 2020 class.
