It was announced Monday that head basketball coach Fran McCaffery was one of several coaches to receive an extension from Iowa.
Along with McCaffery, the Hawkeyes announced extensions to wrestling (Tom Brands), baseball (Rick Heller), women’s soccer (Dave DiIanni), women’s basketball (Lisa Bluder), women’s golf (Megan Menzel), softball (Renee Gillispie), field hockey (Lisa Cellucci) and women’s tennis (Sasha Schmid).
“It is with great pleasure that we are able to reward our head coaches in these sports with contract extensions and adjustments,” said AD Gary Barta. “I am proud of our coaches, staff and student-athletes for their successes in competition, but just as importantly for the professionalism displayed in going about their business, both athletically and academically, throughout a very difficult time due to COVID-19.”
According to the release, McCaffery’s deal now runs through 2028.
McCaffery took over the program prior to the 2010-11 season. Since then, he has led the Hawkeyes to five NCAA Tournament appearances that would have been six had the 2020 March Madness not been canceled. The Hawkeyes have seven 20-win seasons under McCaffery’s watch.
