James Franklin came into Saturday 0-7 against the three coaches many consider to be the B1G’s best.
Jim Harbaugh, Mark Dantonio and Urban Meyer all had Franklin’s number in his three seasons at Penn State. That is, until last Saturday.
Franklin took down Meyer’s unbeaten Buckeyes, and as a result, he earned some national recognition. He was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week.

Franklin actually followed in Meyer’s footsteps after he picked up the award for his win at Oklahoma earlier in the year. It was the first time Franklin received the award since coming to Penn State in 2014.
That also marked the first time that PSU beat a ranked team under Franklin, which put the program in the Associated Press top 25 for the first time since 2011.
The honor was just one of several received from the Lions in the wake of their monumental victory against the Buckeyes. Penn State had three players pick up weekly B1G honors, the Lions were the FWAA Team of the Week, and Kirk Herbstreit declared Penn State his top performing team of Week 8.
Penn State is riding a three-game winning streak into Saturday’s crossover matchup against Purdue.
