Dalano Banton’s journey at Nebraska is coming to an end.
Banton made that official Friday when he announced that he will be remaining in the NBA Draft. The star point guard had been investigating the draft while keeping a return to school open, but he will not be withdrawing his name or returning to the Huskers.
The 6-foot-9 point guard is a unique and special player and had a strong season with Nebraska. After beginning his career at Western Kentucky, Banton transferred then sat out the 2019-20 campaign.
This past season, Banton finished third on the team while averaging 9.6 points but led the team in rebounds (5.9) and assists (2.9) while tying for the team lead in blocks (0.9). He appeared in 27 games (22 starts).
Following Banton’s announcement, head coach Fred Hoiberg put out a statement about the decision:
“Dalano has told us that he has decided to stay in the NBA Draft,” said Hoiberg. “He worked hard in the gym and the weight room this offseason and performed well at both the G League Elite Camp and in individual workouts with teams over the past few weeks. We will do everything we can to support him as he pursues his goal of playing in the NBA.”
Best of luck to Banton as he pursues his NBA dreams! Now, Hoiberg and company will turn attention to how best to replace his numbers in 2021.
Fortunately, Nebraska is adding the No. 17 recruiting class nationally in 2021. That group is headlined by five-star guard Bryce McGowens, the No. 4 shooting guard nationally for the cycle.
