A familiar face is reportedly back with the Michigan football program. Angelique S. Chengelis of The Detroit News reports that Fred Jackson is back at U-M as an offensive analyst on Jim Harbaugh’s staff. Wednesday was Jackson’s first day in his new role.

Jackson, 71, spent 23 seasons with the program from 1992 to 2014. His titles and responsibilities with the Wolverines included running backs coach, offensive coordinator, assistant head coach and associate head coach.

“We’re fired up to have him,” Harbaugh told Chengelis Thursday from the Ferris State mega camp for high school prospects.

Jackson, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native and former Jackson State quarterback, was an active college coach from 1979-to-2014. Since 2015, Jackson has been Dean of Students at Ypsilanti High.

In 2001, Jackson was named the American Football Coaches Association National Assistant Coach of the Year for Division I-A. He was a finalist for the 2000 Broyles Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding assistant coach.
