There was no question who would the Wisconsin Badgers’ starting quarterback this season, redshirt sophomore Alex Hornibrook. However, the backup position remained a mystery, until now.

On Thursday, head coach Paul Chryst named freshman Jack Coan as Hornibrook’s backup.

The Sayville, New York native joined the Badgers in January and practiced in spring practices. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound signal caller passed for 9,787 yards, and 128 touchdowns and ran for 2,551 yards and 33 scores in high school.

Redshirt freshman Kare Lyles is expected to be the No. 3 quarterback, with freshman Danny Vanden Boom as the fourth option.
