Michigan’s defensive line was regarded as one of the best in the country in 2018, and at the NFL Combine, it’s easy to see why.

The Wolverines possessed a unique combination of power and speed along the defensive front last season, thanks in large part to ends like Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich. Both guys proved to be two of the fastest at their position on Sunday.

Gary and Winovich both ranked in the top five among edge rushers in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine on Sunday. Gary clocked in with an official 4.58 time, ranking third. Winovich was close behind at No. 4, posting a 4.59 time in the drill.

Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat dominated the event, running the 40 at a blazing 4.41 time. Florida State’s Brian Burns came in second with a 4.53. Akron’s Jamal Davis rounded out the top five with a 4.60 time.

When you’ve got two edge rushers posted a sub 4.6 time in the 40-yard dash, it’s easier to see why Michigan’s defensive line was so hard to keep in check.
