Gene Smith enters another year as AD at Ohio State. Heading into the 2022 college football season, Smith is not lacking confidence in his Buckeye program.

While meeting with the media Thursday, Smith addressed the season opener against Notre Dame. An Irish alum, Smith admitted he does love his alma mater.

However, Smith also believes the Buckeyes to follow their historical trends by taking down Notre Dame. For what it’s worth, Vegas feels the same way with Ohio State opening as a 15-point favorite for the season opener.

For what it’s worth, Smith is right to have confidence in Ohio State for the matchup, particularly at home. The Buckeyes have faced Notre Dame 4 times since 1995, winning every time.

The most recent showdown between the two sides came in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl. Ohio State rolled in that game, 44-28.
