George Kliavkoff believes expanded CFP could be in place sooner than initially expected

Attempts at reaching an expanded College Football Playoff agreement ultimately failed during the 2021 season. In order to usher in a new format early, agreement on the new format needed to be unanimous.
Ultimately, a new format was not agreed upon and the original contract for a 4-team Playoff is expected to be finished out through the 2025 season. However, Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff is not throwing in the towel on a new Playoff format prior to that term.
“I’m really confident that we’re going to expand the College Football Playoff,” Kliavkoff told ESPN. “It actually wouldn’t surprise me once we agree on the format, if it happens before the end of the current term. Once you agree to the format, why wouldn’t you?”

Kliavkoff’s comments do make some sense. If a new format is eventually agreed upon, it would make some sense for there to be interest in getting the new format in place sooner as opposed to later.
