Gophers DB Benjamin St-Juste a third-round selection, headed to Washington
Benjamin St-Juste was a player who really helped his stock by participating in the Senior Bowl following the 2020 season. It showed on Friday night.
The Minnesota defensive back was selected with the No. 74 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. St-Juste will be headed to Washington to join the Football Team, which reached the playoffs at the end of the 2020 season.
St-Juste is the second Minnesota player off the board in this year’s draft. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman was taken in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens at No. 27 overall.
St-Juste started his college career at Michigan but transferred to Minnesota after the 2017 season. He played in 15 career games with the Golden Gophers and totaled 59 tackles, 11 pass break-ups and 1.5 tackles for loss. The defensive back had his best year during Minnesota’s 11-2 campaign in 2019 with 45 stops and 10 passes defended.
When the 2020 season came to an end, St-Just was in the Day 3 conversation of the NFL Draft, potentially in the sixth or seventh rounds. But his participating in the Senior Bowl moved him up some draft boards as scouts were impressed with what they saw in Mobile.
Now, St-Juste will head to Washington to get his NFL career underway.
