Green Bay fires head coach, former Purdue player Linc Darner

Former Purdue basketball player Linc Darner was “blindsided” by Green Bay this weekend, as the head coach was fired after five season with the program. Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported the news.
Goodman tweeted out on Sunday that Darner had been terminated as head coach of the program. He also stated that the staff was “blindsided” by the decision. His contract was set to run through the 2026 season.

The timing of Darner’s firing doesn’t make much sense, as the university waited until two months after the season concluded to make the decision. In his five seasons with the program, Darner experienced a good amount of success in his five years with the program.
Darner led the Phoenix to three postseason appearances in five years, one NCAA Tournament berth, as well as a CBI and CIT appearance. His teams finished with a winning record four times in five seasons, including a 17-16 finish during the 2019-20 season. Overall, Darner posted a 92-80 record with a 51-39 mark in Horizon League play.
Before his time at Green Bay, Darner had stops at the St. Joseph’s and Florida Southern at the Division II level. He played college basketball at Purdue from 1990-94 under legendary head coach Gene Keady.
