Greg Gard, Brad Davison reflect on Wisconsin’s season-ending loss to Iowa State

Wisconsin’s season is over, coming to an end with a second-round loss to Iowa State Sunday evening.
Entering March Madness, the Badgers had some high expectations for a Sweet 16 appearance at the very minimum. Earning the 3-seed in the Midwest Region and playing in Milwaukee for the first weekend appeared to set the Badgers up for a great start.
Unfortunately, the 11-seed Cyclones had other plans. Fueled by a big night from ex-Minnesota star Gabe Kalscheur, Iowa State shut down Wisconsin’s offense in a major way.
After the loss, head coach Greg Gard reflected on the sudden finality of it all:
“It’s not the actual game itself, it’s the finality of the season and the finality of a journey that’s been a long time in the making,” said Gard.
Gard also went on to praise Brad Davison, calling the guard “a coach’s dream” and a true leader.
Greg Gard very emotional when asked about Brad Davison’s career: “He’s been a coach’s dream. He’s given everything and more that we’ve ever asked for. You always know that he’s going to give you everything every day. His teammates follow that lead.”

Asked about wrapping up his career, Davison said he hopes people will remember him for more than just his exploits on the basketball court:
“I hope basketball’s not the first thing people think about when they think of me,” said Davison. “I hope it’s something bigger than basketball.”
