Greg McElroy on his “Always College Football” podcast was asked about the concerns for Ohio State’s offensive line, and the ESPN analyst described them as “fair.”

But he also offered a word of caution about spring game evaluations, and added, “What might be concerning about your offensive line might also be a feather in your cap of your defensive line.”

“So I would sometimes resist the urge to overreact … you look at some of the defenders and some of the one-on-one matchups that were pretty legit, those defensive linemen looked really good,” McElroy said. “We know that they have quality, front-line pieces defensively. The biggest worry to me is the offensive line, they didn’t have to worry about blitzes in this game, there were no pressures, there were no overloads, this was purely just Jim Knowles defense and getting one-on-one victories up front.”

McElroy also noted that it’s still spring, and the Buckeyes have time to make adjustments and corrections.

As for the positives, McElroy pointed to Chip Trayanum having 110 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown run. For someone who has been positionless in recent years clearly is settling in at running back, McElroy said.

“Probably a name you need to be aware of,” he said.

And while the QB situation was limited because of Devin Brown’s injury absence, McElroy noted how Kyle McCord flashed with some throws that were a “thing of beauty.” Although it will be hard to project how McCord will do as he’s versatile and has the ability to use his legs.

“I’m going to say wait and see on the quarterback spot for the Buckeyes,” McElroy said.
