Greg McElroy has questions about Michigan State. The former Alabama quarterback addressed his concerns on his Always College Football podcast.

“At some point, now that the competition is starting to increase just a little bit, you’ve got to get a little bit more consistency out of your QB,” McElroy explained.

Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne has completed 57.7% of his passes for 445 yards and 4 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. Thorne will need to be better if the Spartans are going to beat Washington on the road.

“I think the key (against Washington) is going to be whether or not Payton Thorne can get comfortable early, and can that Michigan State pass-rush get home the way it has the first couple of games the season.”

If Thorne can get passed the Huskies, it should give him a ton of confidence heading into B1G play against Minnesota. The Michigan State schedule then gets tougher in October with a home date against Ohio State and a road game against Michigan.
