Greg McElroy is going to bat for Michigan after winning the Joe Moore Award.

McElroy defended the Wolverines during the latest episode of “Always College Football with Greg McElroy,” stating that the voters made the right call in terms of the best offensive. Michigan and Georiga were the 2 finalists for the 2022 season.

“Everyone that is involved in the voting for the Joe Moore Award comes with unrivaled credentials,” McElroy said. “Michigan has now won it for the second consecutive year. People are up in arms, and you only had two finalists this year: Michigan and Georgia… The only thing (critics) point to is how Michigan fared in the Playoff last year.”

Michigan possessed 1 of the top rushing attacks behind the duo of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. The Wolverines ranked 5th nationally in rushing offense (243 yards per game) and 2nd in rushing touchdowns (38). In terms of pass blocking, Michigan allowed 13 total sacks, 14th-fewest among FBS programs.

Georgia, which earned the top seed in the CFP standings, allowed 7 sacks, 2nd-fewest among all FBS programs. The Bulldogs also featured a top-20 rushing offense behind the legs of Kenny McIntosh and Daijun Edwards, ranking 17th in yards (207 yards per game), and 4th in rushing touchdowns (37).

McElroy said that while Georgia features perhaps the nation’s top defensive front, the award is given out to the most consistent unit in the sport.

“I understand why that would be frustrating and why that would be the calling card if you tried to make an effort on the part of your team,” McElroy said. “But, the Joe Moore Award goes collectively to the best offensive line. It does not collectively go to the best offensive line at blocking Georgia’s defensive line in 2021. That’s not part of the footnotes.”
