Greg McElroy has expansion plans on the mind for the 2 most powerful conferences in college sports.
The ESPN analyst said on “Always College Football” that he sees the B1G being more aggressive with expansion plans than the SEC. Expansion is on the mind of college sports media and fans as ACC leaders have met this week in Amelia Island, Florida, and details emerged that there is a split in the conference.
The SEC appears content to wait and see how the ACC moves shake out, McElroy said.
“I don’t get the sense that the SEC is really mobilizing to expand,” he said. “The Big Ten, however, would be very open to expanding, but the place they would be most open to would be in the state of Florida. That would be advantageous to NBC, that would be advantageous to FOX, and that would also be advantageous to CBS, those are the 3 media rights holders for the Big Ten. So that’s something to keep an eye on. The Big Ten, I think, is far more likely to expand right now, the SEC not so much.”
