Greg McElroy on Friday addressed mounting pressure around Ohio State’s Ryan Day as the Buckeyes look to bounce back in 2023 against Michigan and win a College Football Playoff game.
McElroy called it “low-hanging fruit” in a segment on low-hanging fruit versus truth.
“I think he earned a lot of goodwill with the performance against Georgia,” McElroy said. “It’s Ohio State. We’re not going to get into the business of giving out moral victories if you’re the Buckeyes. Stop. We’re not doing that. They were tough. They were physical in that game. They were up to the challenge in that game. They had a tremendous game plan. They gave Georgia all they wanted, think about it, who played Georgia better than Ohio State. Georgia didn’t play well. Why didn’t they play well? Because Ohio State gave them all they wanted.”
McElroy admitted that it will be tough for any Ohio State coach to live up to the record of Urban Meyer.
Day’s not under the most pressure entering 2023, McElroy said. Instead, he said that label goes to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns need to show progress ahead of the move to the SEC.
