Greg McElroy says former Penn State TE Brenton Strange is a ‘switchblade that you’re hiding in your Corvette’

Greg McElroy is a big fan of the blue-collar philosophy at Penn State, and one model of that is former tight end Brenton Strange, who now plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
McElroy on his radio show on WJOX in Birmingham, Alabama called Strange a top 5 tight end in college football in 2022.
“He’s never going to have the numbers to warrant being in that conversation,” McElroy said. “He’s never going to be a Brock Bowers, he’s never going to do what the kid at Notre Dame did, Michael Mayer. … He’s never going to have that type of contribution, but he was the switchblade that you’re hiding in your Corvette. He was a dude that you did not want to mess with. He’s taking rib shots, he’s playing after the whistle. He was a tone setter for them. They’ve gotta find that guy again. Like I said, he wasn’t Cade Stover, but dang, he was similar.”
Strange played with an edge, McElroy said, and he wonders if the Nittany Lions can adequately replace him.
“Because if they can’t, that would be a piece that in this game would be in favor of Illinois, would be the toughness and the physicality at the line of scrimmage,” McElroy said.
