Greg McElroy says JJ McCarthy isn’t receiving proper respect because of Michigan’s dominance

Greg McElroy is bullish on JJ McCarthy’s talent and production through 6 weeks of the college football season. Unfortunately, McElroy believes not a lot of people are paying attention because of Michigan’s complete dominance to begin the year.
On the “Always College Football” show, McElroy noted McCarthy probably isn’t getting the full respect he deserves as one of the best quarterbacks in the country. McElroy compared McCarthy to Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel, a player getting Heisman love due to some late-game heroics.
McCarthy has not had a chance to show his worth in crunch time, and it’s possible he doesn’t get much of a chance in close games this season:
“Michigan’s winning too easily for JJ McCarthy to get the respect he probably deserves. People are just flipping the channel on your games because you’re dominating people so badly,” McElroy explained. “Up to this point, have they really played anybody great? Probably not but people are now thrusting Dillon Gabriel into the Heisman conversation. Why? Because he’s had to deliver some late-game heroics.
“Based on Michigan’s schedule, I don’t know if (JJ McCarthy) is going to have to. Granted against Penn State and Ohio State, maybe things will change.”
While some might not be paying attention, McCarthy is actually up to 7th in the Heisman odds entering Week 7. A trio of Pac-12 QBs currently headline the betting favorites led by Michael Penix Jr., but McCarthy could be a great midseason play for interested fans via our signature FanDuel Michigan promo code.
J.J. McCarthy has been one of the nation’s best QBs, but @UMichFootball has been blowing out teams by too much to notice 🤷🏼♂️#GoBlue pic.twitter.com/Jf0D78RERk
