Greg Schiano made the choice to go with Gavin Wimsatt at quarterback on Saturday versus Minnesota. This was one of the things Schiano discussed at Rutgers’ weekly press conference.
Rutgers were shut out by Minnesota 31-0 in Tanner Morgan’s return from injury. Wimsatt had 61 yards passing and 1 interception. Noah Vedral played a few snaps as well, but didn’t have much success either. Vedral had 18 yards passing with 1 interception.
Schiano highlighted the importance of consistency when building a program at the presser. His reasoning for starting Wimsatt was because he believes the Rutgers QB has shown people what he’s capable of.
I think he showed what he’s capable of, and now we have to get consistent of doing that but that’s not just Gavin. As I’ve talked to you guys before in building a program, there’s a lot of steps. The last step is consistency because it’s the hardest step, right, to do something right once, once you get taught the skill and you know the scheme, you can do it right once, but did you do it right over and over again against an opponent that’s trying to make you do it wrong.
Evan Simon has also seen playing time for the Scarlet Knights this season. Perhaps another quarterback change could be on the horizon.
Rutgers faces No. 4 Michigan at home next. Kickoff Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on BTN.
