Many football fans in the state of Indiana were hoping that Jon Gruden would go back to his Hoosier roots and coach the Indianapolis Colts.
The ESPN Monday Night Football color commentator will be on the sidelines in his home state this spring, but it won’t be for the Colts.
According to Indiana running backs coach Deland McCullough, Gruden will be making a trip to Bloomington for the spring game this April.
McCullough got that confirmation after he and four other IU coaches spent the day with Gruden.

Gruden grew up in South Bend, Ind., but he has IU ties from his childhood. His father, Jim, was on Lee Corso’s staff at IU back in the 1970s. During that time, Gruden was a ball boy for Bob Knight.
Perhaps Tom Allen also has a Tampa Bay tie to Gruden, who spent seven years coaching the Buccaneers.
The IU staff spent time with a different version of Gruden on Tuesday in Tampa:

Here’s hoping Gruden and Corso are both in Bloomington — and mic’d up — on April 13.
