Jim Harbaugh believes in his QB.
When asked recently if McCarthy was ready to start the huge rivalry game, Harbaugh said “you don’t have to worry about J.J.”. Harbaugh also praised McCarthy, saying the QB “has that bounce in his step.” Harbaugh stressed that with McCarthy, the “bounce in his step” is nothing new.
Jim Harbaugh on JJ McCarthy’s readiness for the rivalry as a starter: “You don’t have to worry about JJ. He’s got that bounce in his step, and that’s every day. I wish I could tell you it’s this week, but it’s every week.”

McCarthy has been extremely efficient as the starting QB for the Wolverines in Week 3. McCarthy has completed just under 80% of his passes, while only throwing 2 INTs compared to 9 TDs.
This will be McCarthy’s 1st chance to start against Michigan State. McCarthy did enter the game in 2021, but only threw 4 passes in the loss.
Michigan will look to defeat Michigan State for the 1st time since 2019.
