Karan Higdon made headlines on Monday afternoon when he guaranteed a Michigan win over Ohio State on Saturday. But his head coach is taking issue with the way the question was directed at the running back.

During Michigan’s Monday press conference, Higdon was asked if he’d go as far as to guarantee a win over the Buckeyes on Saturday. After pausing for a few moments, the running back simply responded with “Yeah, I do.”

The question caught plenty of flack through social media. Yes, Higdon guaranteed a win, but there was really no other way for him to answer the question. It’s not as if he believes losing is an acceptable option.

On Tuesday, Harbaugh was asked about Higdon’s guarantee during the B1G coaches teleconference. He stood behind his running back’s response but had a problem with the way the question was asked.

“I didn’t think much of the way the interviewer was interviewing him,” Harbaugh said. “What Karan was saying was, yeah, he’s confident, he believes in his teammates, his brothers and coaches. That’s real. I thought the reporter was pretty silly.”

During the question, the reporter also referenced Harbaugh’s guarantee from the 1986 season, when he promised a victory over the Buckeyes.

Michigan has lost six straight games to Ohio State, but this is considered to be the team most likely to end that ugly skid. It would be the first win in the rivalry since 2011 and Harbaugh’s first victory over the Buckeyes as head coach.

The winner will play Northwestern in the B1G Championship Game on Dec. 1.
