Harlon Barnett has assumed the role of acting head coach at Michigan State, filling the post with head coach Mel Tucker recently suspended. On Tuesday, Barnett addressed the media for the first time in his new role and discussed his initial team meeting with the Spartans.

Barnett said he called on the player leaders to step up alongside the coaches to lead the program through this adversity.

“I told those guys, we’ve got to all come together in this time of adversity and we have to be unified through the adversity,” said Barnett. “We need all our leaders to lead. Not only the coaches, but leaders to lead. I told them they lead by love, encouragement, accountability and discipline. So we all have to lead.”

As for what to expect from the team this weekend, Barnett says it is a determined group that’s been working very hard. He also says the Spartans are focused on the mission.

“This is a determined group. They worked very hard this offseason, they’ve worked very hard so far this season,” Barnett claimed. “We’re 2-0, right? And they’re still motivated and excited to move forward in this season. We have a mission to complete, so we’re mission-focused.”

Michigan State will certainly need to be at its best this weekend, facing a top-10 Washington team. DraftKings has the Huskies as -16 favorites with the Spartans looking to pull an upset and get revenge for 2022 in the process.
