Some big news hit Evanston on Thursday, as Northwestern learned that it had secured an overseas game against Nebraska for the 2022 season.
Because this year’s Illinois-Nebraska game in Ireland was called off because of the pandemic, the Huskers had been looking to still make a trip across the sea in the near future. Nebraska was able to come to an agreement with Northwestern and the B1G and the two schools will now play in Dublin to open the 2022 season.
Northwestern’s football players also learned of the confirmed game in Ireland, and Pat Fitzgerald surprised the team with the news. It was an awesome reaction:

The Huskers were scheduled to open the 2021 season vs. Illinois in Ireland, but the pandemic caused that game to be canceled. Nebraska and Illinois will instead open the season in Champaign.
The game vs. Northwestern will take place during Week 0 on Aug. 27, 2022. The Huskers are also playing Illinois during Week 0 of this season.
