The 5-foot-10, 190 lb. running back from Ohio listed Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State, and Purdue among his top-7 schools, with Alabama, Florida, and Notre Dame rounding out the list.
A 2020 MaxPreps Preseason Junior High School All-American second-team selection, Payne rushed for 790 yards and nine touchdowns, catching eight passes for 141 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games during the 2019 season for LaSalle High School.
