Heisman Watch, Week 5: Caleb Williams goes off against Coach Prime and Colorado

A monster showing by Caleb Williams in USC’s surprisingly tough 48-41 win over Colorado may have been enough to knock Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. from his temporary perch at the top of the Heisman odds. But LSU’s 2nd loss of the season may have been enough to knock Jayden Daniels off the top 10 list altogether.
Here is a look at the current Heisman odds and how the current top 10 contenders performed in Week 5…
1) Michael Penix Jr., Washington Quarterback
Week 5 results: 31-24 win at Arizona
Week 5 stats: 30/40 passing for 363 yards, 2 rushes, negative-5 yards
Overall stats: 133/178 passing for 1,999 yards, 16 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 8 rushes, 9 yards
One big number: Penix is averaging just an eyelash short of 400 passing yards per game.
Week 6 opponent: BYE
Arizona held Washington to season lows in points, yards and yards per play while sacking Michael Penix Jr. twice as many times as in the previous 4 games

One big number: Ewers topped 300 passing yards for the 2nd time this year after doing it once in the regular season last year.

4) Bo Nix, Oregon Quarterback

Week 5 stats: 27/32 passing for 290 yards, 4 touchdowns, 3 rushes, 18 yards
Overall stats: 131/163 passing for 1,459 yards, 15 touchdowns, 1 interception, 19 rushes, 87 yards, 1 touchdown
One big number: The Ducks went on a 42-0 run to end the game.
