Kirk Herbstreit witnessed Penn State rally and take down a battle-tested Ohio State team. The ESPN college football analyst wasn’t of the impression that PSU got lucky, either.

How impressed was Herbstreit with the Lions’ late heroics?

He named Penn State his top performer of Week 8:

The win was Penn State’s first vs. a ranked team in the James Franklin era. The Lions also ended Ohio State’s 20-game road winning streak. The effort put Penn State in the Associated Press poll for the first time since 2011.

Marcus Allen was also one of Herbstreit’s top performers for his blocked field goal that led to the go-ahead touchdown return. Allen and Grant Haley, who returned the blocked kick, earned B1G Special Teams Player of the Week honors, as well.

Herbstreit explained why the Lions were his top team in Week 8:

Penn State is suddenly the talk of the college football world and without a game vs. a ranked opponent left on its schedule.

Perhaps the Lions are in for some more national praise.
