Kirk Ferentz spoke this week ahead of Iowa’s regular season finale against Wisconsin on Saturday, the Iowa head coach talking about an important game as well as the impact of this senior class. For the 5-2 Hawkeyes, winners of five straight, it is an important game and a possible statement in a wild season for the Big Ten.
Iowa, to their credit, overcame a slow start to rattle off some impressive wins. And while Wisconsin (2-2) has struggled this season, they are still No. 25 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll and would represent a quality win for Iowa and Ferentz.
This year will be the eighth straight season that Iowa will make a bowl game, an impressive run that also includes five-straight years of finishing the season ranked.
Here is what Ferentz had to say during his media availability ahead of hosting the Badgers on Saturday:
🗣 Head Coach Kirk Ferentz:
"I want to take a minute to congratulate Dan Gable. Such a prestigious honor for him yesterday. Truly amazing. I've had tremendous respect for him as a competitor. His coaching career is incredible."#Hawkeyes

🗣 KF: "I want to say thanks to our 22 seniors. It's not going to be a normal Senior Day, but nonetheless, it will be good for them to get recognized. It's always a bittersweet moment." #Hawkeyes

🗣 KF on Ben and Nick Niemann:
"Both really good players on the field. Ben's continued to improve in the NFL. Nick has done the same thing. He's playing at a really high level right now. He's a leader. They're both tremendous guys. I think that goes back to their mom and dad."

🗣 KF: "If Daviyon (Nixon) ends up on an All-American list, it wouldn't shock me. He's playing really well."
