Iowa is preparing for a big game this weekend as it will face in-state rival Iowa State in a top-10 matchup on Saturday.
The Hawkeyes and Cyclones both snuck into the AP Top 10 this week after securing Week 1 victories. Iowa thrashed Indiana in its opener while Iowa State edged out Northern Iowa.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz is looking for his sixth-straight win in the Cy-Hawk rivalry. Games have been close in recent years, but the Hawkeyes have always found a way to come out on top.
Ferentz opened up his presser on Tuesday by talking about the benefits to the entire state of Iowa during this series.
🗣 KF: "We are looking forward to the Iowa State game. This is a series that is great for the entire state. It is tough preparations for both sides." #Hawkeyes

Moving to the gridiron, Ferentz said that Kyler Schott will miss the rivalry game but the Hawkeyes are otherwise “in pretty good shape” with injuries.
🗣 KF: "Kyler Schott is still out this week and we will see where he is at next week. Other than that, we are in pretty good shape (injuries)." #Hawkeyes

Despite Iowa’s run of success vs. the Cyclones in recent years, Ferentz says he can’t remember an easy game vs. Iowa State.
“If you go back to the 80s maybe it wasn’t so tough” Ferentz jokes in regards to playing Iowa State. He says in the last 25 years he can’t remember an easy game against the Cyclones.

Here’s some of Ferentz’s other comments from his press conference:
Same captains this week: Petras, Linderbaum, Hankins, and Koerner.

There were zero arrests at Kinnick Stadium at the opener.
“There’s less arrests than fumbles we had,” Kirk Ferentz said.

Kirk Ferentz says it's a "unique preparation" against Iowa State's 3-3-5 defense. Can say that Iowa coaches have great respect for the Cyclone coaches (particularly the head coach) and program.

"Iowa State is very talented, experienced and really well-coached… They've built a great program."- Kirk Ferentz

“The last 20-22 years we’ve lined up, it’s been a tough battle.” Despite the top 10 rankings and College Gameday set to be there, coach Ferentz says this game isn’t much different than in years past.

Kirk Ferentz notes how impressive Iowa State's defense is despite being in a conference that isn't known for its defense.
Sassy Kirk is the best Kirk.

#Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says he wasn't aware that his team is ranked in the AP Top 10.
"We won't be if we lose Saturday."
Says (correctly) that rankings don't matter right now.
