Northwestern had a better outing this time around as they defeated FCS opponent Indiana State 24-6.
Head coach Pat Fitzgerald had a lot to say after the game at his weekly postgame press conference.
Fitzgerald talked a lot about how much the Wildcats need to improve significantly after a conference loss against the Michigan State Spartans last week and a slow start today.
“From a communication standpoint, execution and a little better tackling… we’ve still got a lot of coaching to do,” Fitz says of the team’s improvement defending the run today versus last week.

Fitzgerald also talked about how they need to run the ball as a B1G team playing an FCS opponent.
“As a Big Ten team against an FCS team, you’ve gotta be able to pound the ball,” Fitz says of the team’s run-heavy strategy.

Fitz: We’re far from where we need to be, and that’s what’s most exciting for me as their coach. We can be so much better, and we just need to commit to that.
