High school football reinstated in Michigan

High school is back on in the state of Michigan.
On Thursday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic that will allow fall high school sports to be reinstated. Though she recommended not playing contact sports at this time, Whitmer did not go as far as to prohibit them.
Following the order, the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Representative Council voted to reinstate all sports for the fall. They had previously been rescheduled to be played in the spring.
The Detroit Free Press reported the news on Thursday afternoon.
“With 25 states practicing and playing games and another eight states ready to go in a couple of days, it’s different than three weeks ago,” said MHSAA executive director Mark Uyl said. “You’re seeing states whose COVID-19 numbers are far worse than Michigan’s. It has been, nationwide, a very successful start to the year.”
Practices will begin on Tuesday with helmet and shoulder pads. The first games are scheduled for Sept. 17.
