Ohio State is still in the mix for a heavily-recruited safety out of SEC country.

Jake Pope, a 3-star safety out of Buford, Georgia, revealed his top schools on Monday. Ohio State was still in the mix, along with Alabama, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Georgia. In the announcement on Twitter, Pope said that a commitment decision is “coming soon.”

Pope ranks as one of the Top 400 overall players in the 2022 recruiting class, listed at No. 384, per 247Sports Composite. He’s also considered the No. 27 safety in the class and one of the Top 50 prospects out of Georgia.

During this past season, Pope was all over the field for Buford High School, playing wide receiver, safety and kick returner. His team finished the year with a 13-1 record and claimed a 6A state championship.

Pope’s list of five schools is narrowed down from 36 offers he received on the recruiting front. Other B1G schools to express interest but not make the Top 5 include Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Ohio State currently owns the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class. There are 14 players currently pledged to the Buckeyes, 12 of which have received a 4- or 5-star ranking from 247Sports.
