History was made in the B1G on Monday night.
According to the B1G office, Crystal Hogan became the first female to officiate a B1G men’s basketball regular season game. She was in Evanston for Monday night’s matchup between Northwestern and Illinois-Springfield.
The Wildcats won the game 90-50 to improve to 8-2 on the season. The official Twitter account of Northwestern’s men’s basketball program tweeted out the historical moment.

During the 2019-20 season, Hogan was the only female to officiate a Division I men’s basketball game of over 900 officials. She did not referee any B1G games last year.
That changed early in the 2021-22 season.
We’ll see if Hogan officiates any other B1G games during the year.
