The Houston Texans have signed former Iowa defensive lineman Jaleel Johnson to the active roster, the team confirmed Thursday.
Johnson’s signing fills the roster spot left by veteran linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, who asked to be released from the team. Johnson was with the Texans last season and through the offseason but didn’t make the final roster, spending time on the Saints practice squad until now.
The former 4th-round pick is in his sixth season in the NFL, his first 4 being with the Minnesota Vikings. Johnson has racked up totals of 110 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
While at Iowa, Johnson began his career by appearing in just 7 games in his first 2 seasons. However, he became a key piece in the Iowa defensive front by his junior and senior campaigns. His college career totals include 113 tackles and 12.5 sacks.
Johnson will now seek to enter his way in as a rotational piece for the Texans.
