Former Illinois running back and current B1G analyst Howard Griffith is ready to see what JJ McCarthy can do for Michigan.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh announced a few weeks ago that the starting quarterback situation had not been settled and that Cade McNamara would start Week 1 while McCarthy gets the nod in Week 2.
“He’s an exciting quarterback and it’ll be interesting to see how explosive this offense is next week.” Griffith said, via Big Ten Network.
Griffith was a star for Illinois, rushing for over 2,400 yards with 31 touchdowns. He was drafted 236th overall in the 1991 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
McCarthy played a few snaps in Saturday’s season-opening win over Colorado State. He completed all 4 of his 4 passing attempts for 30 yards while McNamara completed 9 of 18 attempts for 136 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Wolverines host Hawai’i next Saturday at 8 pm EST on the Big Ten Network.
