Nebraska received a boost on the recruiting trail on Sunday evening, landing a verbal pledge from a versatile 3-star athlete out of Florida.

Kamonte Grimes, a native of Naples, Florida, committed to the Huskers over the weekend, becoming the 13th member of the 2021 recruiting class. The two-way player at the high school level announced his decision with a post on Twitter.

“I just wanna say it’s been an amazing experience throughout the whole recruiting process and most importantly I want to thank all of the schools and coaches who took their time to recruit me,” Grimes wrote. “With that being said I am 1000% committed to the University of Nebraska.”

Grimes ranks as one of the top 100 players out of the talent-filled state of Florida, coming in at No. 79. He’s also the No. 37 athlete in the cycle and ranks No. 515 overall nationally, regardless of position.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Grimes was a two-way player on the gridiron at the high school level, and has been a star at Palmetto Ridge High School. He’s also clocked a 4.81 time in the 40-yard dash and a 4.65 time in the shuttle run. His vertical is listed at 32.9 inches, according to 247Sports.

Grimes is a three-sport athlete, playing basketball and running track along with football. He received 21 offers on the recruiting trail, but picked the Huskers over offers from Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina and Ohio State, along with several others.

Nebraska’s recruiting rankings received a bump with Grimes’ announcement. The Huskers now rank No. 39 nationally and No. 9 in the B1G.
