‘I just need to teach flopping’: Illinois HC Brad Underwood frustrated by officiating early in B1G season

Illinois has battled some significant foul trouble this season, with head coach Brad Underwood taking a swipe at the officiating on Tuesday.
Flopping, Underwood said, is an issue, leading the Illini coach to use some pointed words in defending his team. Illinois lost on Sunday 91-88 at Rutgers, dropping a preseason Big Ten favorite to 5-3 on the year and 1-1 in the conference.
It hasn’t been the start to the season that most anticipated for a deep, talented and experienced team. And while the season is yet young, Illinois has dropped two of their last three games since a Dec. 8 win over Duke.

Foul problems and flopping are just part of the issue for Illinois. In Sunday’s loss at the Scarlet Knights, the Illini had 13 turnovers (Rutgers had just nine) and had just eight points off turnovers (Rutgers had 16 points).
