Ignas Brazdeikis on UM-MSU title game: ‘We’ve got to get our revenge’

Zero wins, two losses.

That was Michigan’s record against Michigan State this season. It was a glaring blemish on an otherwise tremendous year for the Wolverines. And that 0-2 record is the reason why John Beilein and Co. didn’t hoist the B1G regular season title at the end of the campaign.

Michigan has a chance now to even the playing field. Though it can’t beat Michigan State twice — unless there’s a fourth meeting in the NCAA Tournament — the Wolverines can claim their own hardware with a win on Sunday in the B1G Tournament title game.

It’s an opportunity that B1G Freshman of the Year Ignas Brazdeikis is looking forward to.

“We’ve got to get our revenge,” Brazdeikis told the Lansing State Journal on Saturday. “I would not want to play anyone else in the world. We lost to them twice this year. They’re our rivals. They got the best of us both of those games. I feel like we’re going to be a different team tomorrow.”

Michigan is also chasing history on Sunday. The Wolverines have won a record-setting 10 consecutive games in the B1G Tournament, dating back to 2017. They have the opportunity to become the first team in history to win three consecutive B1G Tournaments.

How much sweeter would it be if that accomplishment came via a win over Michigan State?

At the end of the regular season Michigan and Michigan State battled in East Lansing with the conference title hanging in the balance, a game the Spartans took 75-63. Now, one week later, they’re going head to head again in a high-stakes game.

Could we ask for a better way to end the B1G Tournament?
