It was confirmed that Illinois is extending the contract of its Athletic Director Josh Whitman on Thursday. He will now be staying in Champaign through 2028.

The extension will not only extend his current contract for 4 more years, but will also give him a lot more incentives, as well as a $175,000 raise. Whitman will also have a $50,000 raise through 2028. The Fighting Illini AD will also have a $300k incentive compensation every year, and $200k retention payment every 2 years.

This is what Whitman had to say about his new extension per Joey Wagner of 247Sports:

“On behalf of Hope and our family, I would like to thank Chancellor Jones, President Killeen, and our Board of Trustees for their support, trust, and confidence,” Whitman said in a statement. “I remain humbled to serve my alma mater in such a meaningful role, and I look forward to continuing, with our coaches and staff, our student-athletes, and the entire Fighting Illini family, the work we have undertaken together to build Illinois Athletics into one of the nation’s great intercollegiate athletics programs.
