Illinois football reportedly found their next defensive coordinator on Friday. It’s going to be an inside hire.
Aaron Henry was formerly the defensive backs coach. Henry will now be taking over as the defensive coordinator since Ryan Walters took the Purdue head coaching job opening.
Along with Walters, Henry was a part of the defensive changes at Illinois. The Fighting Illini allowed 12.3 points per game and held opposing offenses to 165.4 yards passing per game this season.
Henry coached defensive backs like Devon Witherspoon during his time with the secondary in Champaign. Before Illinois Henry spent time with Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, and N.C. State.
Henry actually played DB for Bret Bielema at Wisconsin from 2007-2011. The Badgers made it to consecutive B1G titles during that time and appeared in the Rose Bowl as well.
The Fighting Illini are set to face Mississippi State in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Jan. 2. Kickoff will be at noon ET on ESPN2.
