Illinois freshman punter Blake Hayes added to the Ray Guy Award watch list

On Tuesday, Illinois freshman punter Blake Hayes was added to the Ray Guy Award watch list, which is given to nation’s best punter.
Hayes is averaging 40.1 yards per punt through the first six games of his career. He has eight punts downed inside the 20-yard line and three have gone for 50 plus yards. Hayes ranks fifth in the nation in punting average among true freshmen (40.1).
It’s remarkable how good Hayes has been this year because Illinois’ season opener was the first football game he ever played due to him being from Melbourne, Australia.
