Illinois freshman quarterback Cameron Thomas has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules, according to a report.

Saturday morning, Jeremy Werner of the Illini Inquirer reported that Thomas was suspended indefinitely. Thomas is a true freshman was Illinois’ third-string quarterback prior to Friday night. He did not dress for the Illini’s B1G opener against Nebraska.

According to Werner, offensive coordinator Garrick McGee had stated that Thomas was developing nicely in his freshman season and could even see the field at some point.

“He had a really good week last week,” McGee said. “He got a lot of good development, a lot of good work in. We love Cam. We love everything about him. He’s settled in with school and playing quarterback. There’s a lot that goes in, a lot of tutors, a lot of study hall.”

Illinois has had struggles at quarterback this season, so the suspension isn’t ideal if the Illini get into a pinch.

There were no specifics provided on Thomas’ suspension.
